WAC Directory The Washington Administrative Code currently contains 184 titles. Each of the 184 titles is broken down into two levels of subdirectories. One level contains the title digest, that is, the list of all chapters in the title. The second level corresponds to the chapters in the title; that is, there is a choice for each chapter. Each section of the RCW is a separate file in the chapter subdirectory. Please note that the chapters and the sections are not necessarily numbered consecutively. For instance, the first chapter in Title 1 is Chapter 1.04; the second chapter is Chapter 1.06. The first section in Chapter 1.06 is Section 1.06.010; the second is Section 1.06.020. . WAC (Washington Administrative Code) subdirectory .. title_01 ... 01_title_digest ... chapter_004 .... rcw_1_04 (chapter digest) .... rcw_1_04_010 .... etc. ... chapter_006 .... rcw_1_08 (chapter digest) .... rcw_1_08_010 .... rcw_1_08_020 .... etc. ... etc. .. etc. A WAC section includes the citation (number), caption, WAC text, history, and notes (not all sections have notes). A WAC title digest includes the title number, the title name, and the list of chapters in that title. A WAC chapter digest includes the chapter number, the chapter name, and the list of sections in that chapter. The WAC is updated four times a year. The following are examples of how to retrieve WAC text from the main entry level directory using FTP: cd pub/wac/title_01/chapter_004 get wac_1_04_010 cd pub/wac/title_458/chapter_010 get wac_458_010 If you use the Web to access Washington legislative information, you can use RCW Search to find a WAC section containing a particular word or words. Click the check box for the WAC, then enter your search term(s). You may use single words, root words (e.g., crim* to find crime, crimes, criminal, and criminals), and AND, OR, or NOT searches. If you use the connectors, you get the following results: cat AND dog Will find any RCW in which BOTH "cat" and "dog" appear cat OR dog Will find any RCW in which EITHER "cat" or "dog" appears cat NOT dog Will find any RCW in which "cat" appears but not if "dog" also appears If you enter more than one word without a connector, the system will treat your search as an OR search. When the WAC section appears on the screen, the search terms will be highlighted. The list that appears after you have accepted the search terms is ranked according to the relevance of each section to the search terms. The list notes the directory in which the document is located, its name, and its size. You may also use Search system to work your way through the titles and chapters. The following are examples of how to retrieve RCW tables from the main entry level directory using FTP: cd pub/rcw/ get rcw_to_bill_table get bill_to_rcw_table get rcw_sl_section_95_table
