Symbols in Bill Text

Like most legislatures, Washington's
indicates the effect the bill has on the
current statutes by marking text to be 
deleted with strikethrough and new text with
underlines.  The Washington State Legislature
also surrounds bill text to be deleted with
double parentheses.  For those accessing the 
information via the Internet, the
strikethrough has been changed to {-   -} for
stricken text and {+   +} for new text.  For
example, if you were to look at Senate Bill
5348 from the 1993 Session, you would see the
following:

  (c) Disclosing the name of a taxpayer
  with a deficiency greater that five
  thousand dollars and against whom a 
  warrant under RCW 82.32.210 has been
  either issued or (({- failed [filed]-}))
  {+ filed +} and remains outstanding
  for a period of at least ten working days.
