Final Transportation Budget meets 2nd District needs
Olympia -- The 2007-09 Transportation budget is now on it's way to the governor for signing. The budget includes three major 2nd District projects, the Yelm Loop Road the SR 704 Cross Base Highway and the Elbe Safety Rest Area, Rep. Tom Campbell announced today.
"We were able to protect every project we have in the 2nd District in this budget," said Campbell, a member of the House Transportation Committee. "We've obtained another $21.4 million for the next phase of the Yelm Loop Road and $19 million more for the next stage of the Cross Base Highway."
The Yelm Loop Road is a four-mile, three-lane highway that will loop State Routes 510 and 507 to bypass the Yelm city-center, relieving the city's growing traffic congestion. Two years ago, Campbell included $10.2 million in the budget to ge the project started.
"The Cross Base Highway will provide travelers with a new six-mile long, multi-lane divided highway. This will ease congestion on I-5, SR 512 and SR 7, the Spanaway Loop Road and also 174th St.," Campbell added. With this budget's $19 million and $10 million two years ago, Campbell said he expects it to be fully funded by the year 2013.
In addition, the budget includes $665,000 in the 2007-09 budget for the Elbe Safety Rest Area. In 2005, the Legislature approved Campbell's request for $968,000.
"As you can see, we have substantial committed funds to district projects," Campbell added. "We did hold the funding for these projects in this budget."
