In conjunction with a JLARC study of capacity planning and capital facilities at the Washington School for the Deaf (WSD), the 2001 Legislature also directed the Washington State Institute for Public Policy to examine educational delivery models for the state school. The Institute's report summarizes issues influencing deaf education; provides information on the characteristics of deaf and hard of hearing students in Washington State and where these students go to school; describes and compares current models of providing education and services; and analyzes possible alternative directions for WSD in education and service delivery.
