Additional materials required

In addition to the application, the following are required:

  • cover letter
  • resume
  • written essay (see application)
  • two letters of recommendation
    • One letter from a faculty member that addresses your research and writing abilities.
    • One letter from a personal acquaintance (e.g., long time friend, high school teacher, scout leader, etc.) that addresses your character.

Letters of recommendation should be addressed to "Intern Coordinators".  Letters may be emailed by the recommender to barrera.samantha@leg.wa.gov and best.judi@leg.wa.gov or sent hard copy, in which case they must be signed and sealed with the recommender's name across the flap.  If letters will be emailed or if the recommender will send it directly, please indicate on your application that letters are being sent separately.

Applicants must also arrange for a faculty sponsor. Some schools have pre-assigned sponsors and others require the student to obtain a sponsor. Contact the coordinators if you have questions. The sponsor and the faculty writing the letter of recommendation may be different people.
