Rep. Tom Campbell named to Methamphetamine task force
Olympia -- Rep. Tom Campbell has been named to the Attorney General’s Task Force on Methamphetamine. Campbell, sponsor of House Bill 2266, joins statewide law enforcement officials, prosecutors, elected officials, business and community representatives and treatment providers who will work to implement a number of meth-related programs, including Campbell’s anti-meth bill.
“This is one of a number of steps we will take to implement Washington’s new law to bring greater safety to our communities and help rid the state of a very serious drug problem,” Campbell (R-Roy) said. “Our task force, “Operation: Allied Against Meth,” includes a team of experts who will evaluate and recommend tools to address Washington’s methamphetamine epidemic.”
The task force, appointed by Attorney General Rob McKenna, had its organizational meeting in Olympia on Wednesday, Aug. 10. The focus of the first meeting was implementing Washington’s new anti-meth law, consider Oregon’s approach to meth problems and organization of Task Force Working Groups.
McKenna said the task force will play a critical role in our statewide anti-meth initiative. “Together we will explore current strategies and devise new ones to fight the battle against meth.”
Campbell said the 27-member committee will meet again in late September to determine the course of the study with a goal to develop recommendations for a legislative package to bring before the 2006 Legislature.
