Campbell's veterans' tax exemption bill passed the House

OLYMPIA -- After five years of trying, today Rep. Tom Campbell passed his bill to provide property tax relief for disabled veterans. By a 98-0 vote, the House sent to the Senate HB-1019, which gives veterans of the U.S. armed forces with 100 percent service-connected disability the same property tax relief on their homes as now is provided to senior citizens.

"It's been a long time coming, but I'm very pleased with House passage of this very important and very fair bill," Campbell (R-Roy) said. "Now, I hope the Senate will respond in kind in these last few days of session to give our disabled veterans their due."

The bill allows those disabled veterans who have an annual income below $25,000 to be exempt from all excess levies. Military disability income is no longer included in the combined disposable income when determining eligibility for the senior citizen and disabled persons property tax relief program.
