A little noted, but very important event in the 2005 session was the unanimous vote for House Joint Memorial 4020 supporting a national War Dog Memorial in Washington, D.C. The effort is to honor thousands of highly trained dogs that have made an important contribution in every war since World War I. On May 11, Gov. Gregoire signed into law House Bill 2266, my bill to restrict the over-the-counter sale of products that are essential ingredients in the illegal manufacture of methamphetamine. This is a major step to deal with the mushrooming of meth labs in communities across the state.

Gov. Christine Gregoire signs Rep. Campbell's bill (HB 1019) to bring property tax relief to disabled veterans. The signing took place at the Winged Victory Memorial on the Capitol Campus as dozens of veterans joined the festivities. Campbell, standing on the right side of the photo, said he intends to continue to refine the benefits for disabled veterans in future sessions.

Gov. Chris Gregoire signed House Bill 1106 as Rep. Tom Campbell and his mother, Edna Campbell, look on. Campbell dedicated the bill signing to his father, Charles M. Campbell, who died on Oct. 2, 2002 of a hospital-acquired infection.
